ruio.'s soundscapes

Soundscape is the result of approaching the sonic environment that surrounds us as an artwork worth of devoting our attention to. It is only by doing this exercise our act of listening becomes sharper and our sound landscape (or soundscape) richer.

This section thus aims to make available the origin and source of some of ruio.'s field recordings, which he normally uses in his works.

If you wish to have access to any specific recording, please get in touch.

Hjelmen (Stord) 09.07.21

“Hjelmen” is the name of a boat built in 1918 as a fishing boat in Bjørkedalen (Norway). Its current engine, which we can both hear in the field recording underneath and the evolving and stuttering noise in ruio.’s track hjelmen, is from 1972. This engine has 3 cylinders (Marna M3), 24/36 hk, and it weighs 660 kg.

Hjelmen was bought in 1979 on a Sunday morning by the Eldøy family (Stord), to whom it still belongs. It was then completely restored by the family.

Thanks to the Eldøy family for making this recording possible, and  for the information provided.

Kyrkjeberget (Stord) 04.08.21

Recording made at 11:22 am.

In the background we see and hear the boat Pioneering Spirit a 382-metre-long (1,253 ft), 124-metre-wide (407 ft) catamaran crane vessel, the world's largest vessel by gross tonnage.

This recording was inspiration of ruio.'s track pioneering spirit.
